The scriptures speak of spiritual concepts like being perfected in Christ (Moroni 10:32-33), taking upon us Jesus’s name (Doctrine and Covenants 20:37), and having his image engraved in our countenance (Alma 5:19). This painting and its creative process represent these teachings.  There are 35 portraits in this painting.  Each was created by an underpainting in acrylic of unique colors and combinations.  Every portrait was then overlaid with a linocut pressed black oil image of the classic icon of Christ.  On its own, each under portrait is rough, unfinished, and independent. It’s a little bit like us as individuals.  We are beautifully unique and diverse, yet on our own insufficiently disparate and incomplete.  But if we allow Him, Jesus comes to unite and complete us.  That’s what the Lord does for us if we will receive Him: He engraves His divine image upon the underpainting of our soul. It doesn’t matter our color or composition, our highlights or our shadows, our placement or position. When pressed with Christ, all are complete, perfected, and unified.  He saves us all, individually and collectively.
